Homeowners meeting Dec. 8

I have asked Sammy Florez to include in the minutes a list of attendees. Since many of us don't know many of the players involved, I also asked him to list in what capacity each person attended: board member, scrutiny committee, security committee, VLE staff, etc. He seemed willing to do that. I also asked him to include a "roll call vote" for any vote that is not unanimous, we'll see if he can do that.

If anybody else has any requests for the meeting or for the minutes, let Sammy know. I understand that Sergio Banos is in charge of the agenda.

Provisions for renters at Villa La Estancia

Let me pose a question to VLE owners. I hope it is at least a little bit provocative.

What sort of services and amenities do you provide to your renters, specifically those you find yourself and are NOT provided by the resort? For example, do you provide daily housekeeping, as if your renters were in a hotel?

When I make reservations for a renter, I introduce them to the resort as "my friends," and I expect them to extend the same courtesies to them as they do to me. I expect the resort to give my renters a gold card, and I expect my renters to get preferential seating at the pool, etc. Essentially, I take the position that it shouldn't make any difference to the resort whether they are renters or not.

Am I out of line? I'd appreciate some feedback on this.

Customs upon arriving in Cabo

According to the Nov. 14 Gringo Gazette (p. 40), if you have something seized by customs when you arrive at the airport, you should demand a receipt. As the Gazette says, "You'll be amazed at how fast the customs people lose interest in taking your stuff when they know they won't get it for themselves."

Homeowner's meeting Dec. 8 2005, closing of property

Maybe I overestimated the interest in this blog? Oh well, no reason to take it down, maybe traffic will pick up.

Today I received my notice of the annual homeowner's meeting, to be held at La Casona on Thurs. Dec. 8. More than anything, it reminded me of a question I have wondered about before, but have not tried to find the answer: since I have not yet closed on my property, do I have the right to vote? If anybody knows the answer off the top of your head, please let me know. Also, if you will be in Cabo for the meeting and are willing to carry a proxy, please comment on this post. Or better yet, make your own post--others might want somebody trustworthy to vote their proxy. Thanks.

Spurred by the notice of the meeting, I made my monthly call to Stewart Title to inquire into the status of the fractional closings. It was confirmed that, still, no fractionals have closed yet. The current guess is that things will be wrapped up by the end of the month. (Anybody old enough to recall the Vietnam conflict will remember that we were repeatedly told "...there's light at the end of the tunnel." We used to joke the light was an oncoming train.)

Thanks, I hope to hear from somebody.

Posting to this blog

I realize it is not obvious how to create posts to this blog. In fact, if you just go to the blog at http://www.vlecabo.blogspot.com/ you can read the posts, and you can post comments to existing posts. But you can't start a new topic. So here's how:

Go to http://www.blogger.com and sign in, using the user name and password you adopted when you accepted my invitation to join the blog team. On the next screen, click on the "Villa La Estancia, Cabo" link. Then you will be at a page which lists the existing posts, from where you can go to any one, read and post comments, etc. There is also a button on this page which permits you to make new posts. This is what you would do if you want to discuss a new topic, such as maintenance, pools, etc.

Changes in Concierge Staff at VLE

Let me use the first post of substance to make you aware of personnel changes in the concierge staff at the resort. Two weeks ago Esteban Green and Jose Luis Angeles left the company to start their own business, which they will announce soon. Since then, Joaquin (I don't know his last name) has been filling in at the concierge desk. He's working hard and doing fine, and I suspect that as time goes by he will be stretched a little thin.

Esteban and Jose had many friends among VLE owners, and I'm sure we all wish them well in their new venture.

First Greetings!!

Hello, everybody. I am Tom Spradlin, owner of a quarter share of villa 1202 at Villa La Estancia in Cabo. I just returned home to chilly Indiana after 3 glorious weeks in Cabo. While there, I had a number of conversations with other owners, and most (all?) agreed that we owners would benefit from a means of sharing thoughts, experiences, ideas, etc. about our ownership experience. That's the idea of this blog.

I've never done this before. There are probably a gazillion better ways to do it, but we have to start somewhere. So I hope you will feel free to offer your views etc. by posting comments to any post here that you find interesting. Also feel free to start new subjects. I'll try to figure out on the fly how to organize this thing.

In a minute now I will click "publish" and this thing will be launched... Good luck!
